Optimization with Googlepages

I have created site using Googlepages. I don't understand how can I
optimize my pages since it seems that site created on Googlepages
doesn't support any meta tags which most useful for site
optimization.
When I try to add meta tags, it doesn't save or puts some strange
boxes in the design form.
Could somebody pls let me know how can I optimize this site.

Personal opinion:
I don't think that any site in Google Pages is worth too much SEO work, other than as a training ground.
Once your site is known by search engines, there will not be that many things that will help you improve your rankings.
If you plan to have an excellent site with lots of vistors and some business, you would really need to work with other tools/ host providers.
