Can anyone speak to the bike path planned for Donald? If I understand correctly, it is supposed to run between the cars and the buses. I'm not sure where it goes at Stradbrook (riding north towards downtown) - does it follow the buses along Queen Elizabeth Way? If so, what does it do at Main Street? Is there a convenient way to get onto the trail under the Norwood Bridge and into the Forks?

Every time I go on Donald (to and from downtown, almost every day), I just can't visualize there being enough room for buses in both directions and the bikes (never mind the pretty trees that are in the pictures).

Can anyone allay my worries and tell me it's all going to be fine and I'll have an easy ride downtown this winter without feeling the blow-by of cars and buses?

The public is invited to visit a public open house regarding the City
of Winnipeg’s 2010 Active Transportation Program:

    Wednesday, February 24, 2010
    4 pm – 7 pm
Earl Grey Community Centre ~ 360 Cockburn Street North

This session is an opportunity to view information on the proposed
plans for new Active Transporation facilities in the River Heights /
Fort Rouge, Bison Drive, Wilkes,Waverley and Seel areas, and to share
your ideas on Active Transportation facilities for Jubilee and Hay.

Tom,

There is a BRT Open House on Wednesday April 7. You should be able to
get answers there.

From the Winnipeg Transit Website:

Southwest Rapid Transit Corridor Project – Stage 1 Open House
On Wednesday April 7th (from 4pm – 8pm) Winnipeg Transit will be
holding a Drop-In Open House for information about the Southwest Rapid
Transit Corridor Project – Stage 1.

The Open House will be held at the Fort Rouge Leisure Centre at 625
Osborne Street.

At the event you will be able to view detailed plans for the stations
(Fort Rouge, Osborne, and Harkness), plans for the Active
Transportation paths, and provide valuable feedback.

Tom,

The open house is the best place to get the info. It's my
understanding that the plan is to have the path go around the
apartment building at Donald and Stradbrook (the busway will go behind
the apartment building). From there, it will parallel Stradbrook to
Main. You should be able to connect to the Forks via the riverwalk
from there.

Mark
