Were thrilled to bits here at GBSEx on winning the Best Congress award for the second year running! The award means a lot to us as it is voted for by dancers. Its an endorsement of our efforts and makes it all worthwhile! Thank you so much to all who voted for us and whove supported GBSEx in years 1 and 2. Were working hard to make GBSEx III even bigger, bolder and better - weve a lot to live up to!

Our sister company, Salsology also won:

Live Music @ GBSEx III with Jimmy Bosch

The world's greatest salsa trombonist and top New York band leader, Jimmy Bosch, will be playing 'live' at GBSEx III.

Accompanied by one of Europe's leading salsa bands, Grupo X, Jimmy Bosch will play on Sunday night after the showcase.

He is an absolute legend amongst salsa musicians, an original songwriter with numerous salsa hits under his belt, and a true entertainer able to create an energy and vibe on stage which we know will go down well with GBSEx dancers. Enjoy....

New Artists

We've strengthened our Cuban line-up with 2 awesome Cuban artists, Enrique Perez, teacher, DJ & promoter, and Javier La Rosa, DJ.

Enrique Perez

Born and raised in Pinar del Rio and Havana in Cuba, Enrique has been dancing salsa for over 25 years. A highly respected salsa teacher and DJ, he's appeared at top salsa dance festivals and events throughout Europe.

Enrique is the creative force behind Salsa Explosion in the South East, running weekly salsa club nights and special events in the area, and promoter of the UK's premier Cuban Salsa event, the UK Cuban Salsa Festival in Bournemouth.

Javier La Rosa

Javier, winner of the 'Most Popular Cuban Salsa DJ Award 2006', is one of the most exciting Latin DJs on the scene. He came to the UK 5 years ago from Havana, Cuba, where he worked at the Castillito Cultural Centre and was involved in various musical activities. He has been DJing in the UK since his arrival, playing Salsa and Timba Cubana, Reggaeton, Latin Hip-Hop and R&B to suit the occasion. He featured in iD London magazine (October 2005 edition) as one of the UK's leading emerging acts in the urban latin music scene. Currently, you can find him playing at various clubs and events in London and the UK.

Spotlight on..

Nelson flores

Nelson Flores is one of salsa's greats. He's one of New York's top instructors, choreographers and producers, and Director of Descarga Latina Dance Company. Nelson's achievements are many and include Director/Producer of off-Broadway musical comedy, Latin Madness, Official Judge for the World Salsa Competition sponsored by sports network giant ESPN, and Event Planner for the New York New Jersey Salsa Congress 3 years running.

We're big fans of Nelson Flores, having attended many of his workshops at home and in New York over many years now. His Shines workshop is a must for all you On2 fanatics - in many ways Nelson defines 'Shines On2'. It'll be packed with great footwork and have a 'workout' atmosphere, all taught with a great sense of humour and fun. This class is booking up fast already - it's at the top of the bookings list - so don't miss out on this one.

We'd also recommend Nelson's Latin Hustle class. Latin Hustle is great fun and Nelson and his New York buddies are apparently completely hooked on it. We hear they've taken the New York Latin Hustle scene by storm! We think Latin Hustle could be the next big dance craze over here, so why not give it a go.....

Nelson's workshops:

  • Sat @ 11am | Int/Adv TP On2
  • Sat @ 5.15pm | Masterclass TP On2
  • Sun @ 9.45am | Intro to Latin Hustle
  • Sun @ 4pm | Int/Adv Shines On2

Here's a PDF download of last year's paper to give you some ideas (2.8mb) >>>

If your article is printed, you win a GBSEx0 ticket!
