Dave Burley has died. The following was posted on his Facebook page.

It is with a heavy heart that I share that my dad, David Burley, passed away on April 11, 2026, at the age of 93.

My dad was hardworking, smart, and silly all at once—a golfer, master ice cream maker and cookie baker, a super Target and Costco deal finder, and a dedicated genealogist. More recently, he became an email “blogger,” sharing reflections on the world and connecting them to history.

My mom was truly the love of his life. I’ve had strangers come up to me when I was with them, after seeing how he cared for her, sharing how clear it was how deeply they loved each other. I feel so lucky to have had them as a model for love.

My sisters and I were jokingly called “David’s Angels,” and I’m so thankful his angels—and our families—were able to surround him in his final days. It brings comfort knowing that my mom & dad are together again.

David Kelly Burley 12/21/1932 – 4/11/2026

David passed away peacefully at his home in Sunnyvale, California, surrounded by family. He was preceded in death by his wife of more than 60 years, Barbara (Miller) Burley, and is survived by his daughters, Kelly Thomas, Debbie (Jim) Witt, and Erin (Ray) Blakeney; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Born in Moundsville, WV, he graduated from Moundsville High School (Class of 1950). He married Barbara in 1957, and together they built a life full of adventure before settling in Sunnyvale in 1963.

He served as a cryptographer in a specialized U.S. Army Intelligence unit in Alaska during the Cold War and went on to a 35-year career as a systems analyst with aerospace and defense contracts. In retirement, he enjoyed golf, travel, genealogy, and most importantly, time with family.

Memorials may be made to a charity of your choice. A Celebration of Life for David and Barbara will be announced at a later date.

Sad news. The pictures on his daughter’s Facebook post are terrific. He was a good guy. I’ll miss him.
