Hi everyone,

People in our industry regularly say "if you can't change your organisation, change your organisation," so that's exactly what I've done. I handed in my notice of resignation at work and my final day will be this coming Friday (26th August). The short version is that I was no longer happy working in a controlling corporate environment.

I plan to do a Corey Haines style tour where I get to help you work on your projects, while I learn new techniques and tools. I won't be asking for a salary for this, but would be looking for room and board in order to cut down on expenses.

I originally announced this on twitter a few weeks ago (on the day I handed in my notice), but thought I should make a more formal announcement here now that it's getting closer to my final day. I've had feedback from a few people on the back of the Twitter announcement, so I'd be keen to speak to those guys first; firstly to see if they are still interested and, if so, to make some more concrete plans.

My goal after all of this is to get into Ruby development (although I'm not restricting myself to Ruby for this journey), to have a much better idea of how software is built in the wider community and to increase my knowledge and skills. In my professional background, I have never been involved in a project that was properly unit tested, or had continuous integration/deployment, for instance.

I'm available from the 5th September onwards.

If anyone here on this group likes the sound of this and is willing to help me improve my software skills I'd love to hear from you!

Cheers,
Stuart

For what it's worth, having paired with Stu a number of times, he'd be an asset to have working with your team.
