This is interesting, let me see if I can locate someone in the GIS world who owns one.  - JJ

This is somewhat out of my wheelhouse as I don’t have a lot of experience with gps equipment. Is there a good chance that these might be damaged or do you think it might be worth purchasing the equipment? I slightly suspect that we might have better accuracy with some of the technology in our phones compared to some of the older equipment but would defer to someone who has more hands-on experience with gps equipment.

Also, another source may be the surplus from the military:

https://www.gsa.gov/buy-through-us/government-property-for-sale-or-lease/personal-property-for-reuse-and-sale/for-citizens-seeking-surplus-property/how-to-purchase-surplus-property

This also poses the question if we want to pursue setting up a way to make financial transactions (obtaining a tax ID, etc.) so that we could set up a bank account, etc. which should be discussed within the group.

Thanks, Jay!

Best,
Lesley

Some used GPS equipment, any opinions from you?

Lesley,

Can you elaborate on the protocols you wish to find?

And, would anyone know more about this?

Hi Everyone,

Thanks, everyone for the productive meeting and for Jacob for staying on top of the notes. We missed you Jay and Luciane, hope both of you can join us in the future.

One thing I should’ve specified a bit better regarding the vegetation data collection effort for Famosa Slough should be finding existing protocols for vegetation surveys to acquire our data. We will want to follow existing protocols (if they exist) to follow while collecting data. Coral, would it be possible for you to do some investigation into these protocols?

Thanks, everyone!

Best,
Lesley

Hi Everyone,

I want to thank everyone for the productive meeting yesterday! I'm sorry to have missed those of you who expressed interest, but weren't able to make it.  I feel like we're off to a great start here and I can't wait to see what we can all accomplish together 😃. I am planning on organizing a new Google Drive/account dedicated to SCGIS-SD and will share it with the SCGIS Google group as soon as I can.

Also, I just sent out a MS Teams invite from my work email, for our next meeting on September 8th. Please let me know if you didn't receive it. I scheduled it for four hours just in case.

As a reminder, if you have an active SCGIS membership, you are entitled to a free SCGIS organizational account with AGOL (Creator level). See the links below:

If you haven't received an email for your account yet, check your spam folder (the SCGIS AGOL Coordinator told me the accounts for Lesley and Josh have been set up already). Kristina, be on the lookout for a new email soon.

Best,

Jacob Helfman
