Get ready for the Society for Conservation GIS Conference!

July 7 - 11th, 2026

Dear SCGIS Listserv,

We are so excited to see those of you attending next month’s conference! Here is some information that will help you prepare for the event. For those of you who can’t be there (though it’s not too late to register!), we do plan to livestream our keynote sessions, panel discussion, and membership meeting (more info coming soon).

If you are already registered for the conference, you may receive this email twice. We apologize for any duplication!

Jocelyn Tutak

President, Society for Conservation GIS

Review the Agenda

Check out the draft agenda on our website! During the conference, we use the Whova app (Apple & Android ) for communication and updating the live agenda. We will be launching the Whova event soon and will alert attendees when it goes live.

For those of you presenting, please review the agenda to see when your session is scheduled and confirm that the details are correct. Email conferenc...@scgis.org with any questions, and keep an eye on your email for more detailed information about presenting.

Order a Conference Shirt

This year’s conference design celebrates our location in beautiful Colorado! Support SCGIS by purchasing a 2026 conference shirt from our online shop today in order to have it delivered before the conference. There are lots of styles, including tank tops, t-shirts, and sweatshirts. Please note that we will not have shirts for sale on site at the conference.

Prepare for the Auction

Our beloved silent and live auction returns on Thursday, July 9th! This exciting event raises funds for our Global Scholarship Program and was a highlight of our pre-pandemic conferences.

Please consider donating items for the auction! Past auctions have featured  unique and culturally-rich items, donated by attendees, from around the world. Consider bringing something from your own travels or home region, handmade creations, professional services, or classes. If possible, please submit your donation ahead of time. Items will be accepted up to the day of the auction.

Pack for the Map Gallery

The map gallery reception will be held on Wednesday, July 8th. There is no need to pre-register and there are no size limitations. We accept physical and digital maps, but you will need to provide your own laptop or screen for digital entries.

Consider Conference Activities

We are excited to announce several extracurricular activities for attendees this year:

Milky Way Photography

July 8th: SCGIS founder and professional photographer Charles Convis will share his passion for night-sky photography. Learn from Charles how to capture the Milky Way with your own camera! Beginners are welcome, and participants need only to bring a non-phone camera with manual setting capabilities. Learn more and sign up here.

Pika Hike

July 11th: Join the Colorado Pika Project (a partnership of Rocky Mountain Wild and Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance) on a hike to see American pikas in Rocky Mountain National Park. Learn about pika ecology and how to use the Pika Patrol app to help researchers understand how these animals are coping with climate change. Space is limited! Learn more and sign up here.

Plan to Get There

The conference venue at YMCA of the Rockies  - Estes Park Center is roughly a 1.5 hour drive  from Denver International Airport. Learn more about shuttles and carpooling on our website

Make the most of your time in Colorado

As well as a conference center, the YMCA of the Rockies - Estes Park Center is also a 960 acre family-friendly destination. Before you arrive, check out the wide variety of YMCA activities available to you. From archery to axe throwing to hiking, there's something for everyone.

Rocky Mountain National Park is right next door. It is very popular in the summer and reservations are required for entrance. Be sure to plan ahead if you'd like to visit.
