Hello!
The Fourth Annual Northwest San Diego County NABA Butterfly Survey will take place on
Saturday, July 18, 2026. Please let me know if you can join us by next Friday,
June 19 so I can begin forming teams. Feel free to pass this along to anyone who may be interested.
For those of you who are new to this event, here are some details:
Before the day of the count, you will be placed on a team. Each team will have a leader or co-leaders with experience identifying butterflies. Do not worry if you are not an expert! If this is your first time, you will be amazed at how much you will learn
about butterflies in one day. Spotters, data recorders, photographers, navigators, and drivers are all essential for a successful count. Your team will be given a list of locations fairly close to each other to survey (generally parks or preserves) within
the 15-mile diameter count circle (map is attached) over approximately 6 hours. You can let me know if a shorter time or just one location is better for you. Leading up to the day of the count, your team can plan where to meet and how you will get from place
to place. The amount of time you spend at each spot is up to you, and might depend on how much butterfly activity is going on. You may not have time to go to all the locations. My goals are for you to collect butterfly data and HAVE FUN!
So far we have Hector, Mike, Jeff, Brandi, Jo'lene and myself as team leaders.
I'm looking forward to another great count. Please reach out with any questions.
Thanks so much!
Jill Lingnell
