raw rice for chickens?

Hi All,

 

I think that I read somewhere that one should not feed rice to chickens. (I don't remember why)  And although I have been giving them small amounts of leftover cooked rice from time to time with no ill effect, I now have a big (unopened) bag of organic brown rice that has bugs (yuck) and so I need to dump it in the compost.  Will eating this raw rice hurt my chickens?

I think I heard that it will explode in their stomach. That's why they stopped throwing rice at weddings. I wouldn't risk it.
