Hello,
Was looking at DIY Drones and it recommended this group.
I was wondering if you guys have discussions or meetings.
I live in North Austin and wanted to meet other people whom are using
the APM2 as their core for building their multirotors or airplanes.

Hello... I'd like to be member No. 4 if possible.  I live in the South San Antonio area.  I have a private shop dedicated to UAV development.  I really like to have a crew to work/discuss topics with to develop some cool stuff.  I'm not exactly sure how to use forums/Google Groups yet so bare with me if I'm doing this wrong.  This is the first group/blog ever for me.

Hello number 4 and welcome to the group.

I find it very interesting that you bring up UAVs, as I am in the UAV industry. I have yet to build my own FPV/UAV set up, but I have spent the last three years flying UAVs in Afghanistan and Iraq and I am pretty familiar with the commercial products.

What exactly do you have in mind for a discussion? RX, TX, GCS.. plane or Helo?

Long range endurance is what I'm interested in.  I'm developing an already existing full size plane but scaling it down to 1/8.  However, I need to get my feet wet with the technology of it all.  I have several fields of technology that I am capable of.  I just don't want to do this alone.

I'd be very interested to hear some performance experience from you.  I bet you have some amazing information.  I'm considering purchasing the ARDU-PLANE module and software.  What are your thoughts?

Sounds very interesting. Are you planning on using 433 Mhz? Designing your own plane or using an existing product? I am interested to hear about your design.

I have a lot of experience flying UAVs for the Gov but most of the software is proprietary, although a lot it is commercial off the shelf products.

I have never flown on ARDU software, but from what I have read, the product seems solid and user friendly.

Today is the first time I have gotten anything from you...

I think you have been talking to a guy named John Smith at EVUAS... He is a friend of mine in Cali.. He forwarded the email you and him have been sending back and fourth to see if I was interested.
As I mentioned in the email, I /We do alot of UA stuff in Wimberley.. were about halfway between ATX and SA out in the country... We have exclusive access (I am the field advocate) to an awesome flying site out here.  We Fly full auto systems as well as FPV and RC... We mfg our own wings for SAR and use them in this field quite regularly...  I would love to get together sometime and talk shop!
We have a whse in Wimberley where build all our stuff.  I organize Fly ins about once a quarter and have people coming from all over Texas... Let me know if you wanna get together.

For anyone interested, you can see more about us on the web.

It sounds like Myron has the perfect place to conduct a good introductory meet & greet... How about we put a date on it... The last weekend of this month any good? being July 10, 2012.  The location is optional obviously, it just that Myron Smoorenburg is central to all of our locations.

Well I am now receiving posts and updates to the correct email…Huzzah!

Aside from the unrelenting heat, I think a meeting in Myron sounds fantastic!

July 28 and 29 sounds good to me, but I am flexible.  Anybody else have any suggestions as to date? Thanks to Myron and their group for the open field invite…

Regards,

Hey ray what types of iarframes are you working with?  I am contemplating starting a company to sell and market some kits. I am working with strictly multi rotors.  But I am in SA and would love to fly one weekend with a fellow UAV nutcase...

Myron,

I would love to check out your operations when I get home. I am currently flying UAVs in Afghanistan and I have been a big fan of PR Flight Systems for a while. As a matter fact, I just picked up a copy of Jean's book (he nailed it, good job).

I should be home some time in September, hope to meet everyone then.

Cheers,

-Adam

Hey there.  I'm new to the area and I am a fellow UAV nutcase!  I am former US Army SOF and flew the Raven a time or two and have quite a bit of experience with other UAVs such as Scan Eagle.  I got into RC airplanes and it all rolled down hill from there.  I work and live here in SA and looking for others that share the same interests.  I'm looking at starting a project here soon designing and building my own composite UAS.  I am very technologically sound, however, I've never worked with composites so if anyone could take the time and talk I would love to pick someone's brain!  Like I said, I'm new to the area so if anyone could suggest a good place to fly experimental aircraft nearby west SA, please inform me!  I look forward to hearing from you guys!

Hello Hunter,

My name is Jarrad Landry.  I too am a UAV developer.  I,m sort of new to the game but have been researching my scratch build UAV system for approximately 5-6 years.  I am also developing the UAV out of composite materials.  I would like to achieve continuous long duration flight systems for use in the Gulf of Mexico.  I work out of a dedicated garage just for UAV development.

If you need any assistance regarding composite materials I have some excellent videos, purchased from www.fiberglast.com .  It’d be great to meet you and talk geek.  Please call at your nearest convenience, 985.397.2629.

I spoke with Myron just yesterday to introduce myself.  Myron if your reading this it was great talking with you and I look forward to checking out your operation.

Thank you.

Sounds great!  Any particular time or day that's best for you talk?  I have two kids and work in the evenings so I know how hectic times can get.

Hunter,

I can chat anytime this afternoon between 1-5 P.M.  I have a place we can meet up downtown if you’re interested in meeting.  I think you’d like the place.  It’s a geek office designed for like minded people to meet up and share ideas.  Check out www.Geekdom.com   985.397.2629
