Something tells me that three locations have already been spoken for. From what I can tell, the governors and economic leaders in these areas have been lobbying for and welcoming the UAV industry.

- Fort Hauchuca AZ
- Mojave Desert CA
- Grand Forks ND

The contest will be between:

- The Dalles WA
- Wichita OK
- Savannah TN
- North Slope Region of Alaska
- Middle River MD
- Nelis AFB area, NV

Corpus Christi would be an excellent location for one of the testing sites for many reasons (DHS UAV activity already in the area, near a large city but out of the way of commercial flight activity, near the gulf/ADIZ, test flights could be over the gulf minimizing the risk of damage in the event of a failure...). Sadly, recent legislation and political will has discouraged any location in Texas from being a seriously considered.

Anyone one else want to add to the list?

Basically what these are sites that the govt can charge you to fly and test a UA system... the fee to do so...about 50K!!
dont get your hopes up about getting to fly at any of them unless you have tons of cash to waste and that your a certified and licesensed full scale pilot with at least a 2nd class medical.

If you wanna fly and test stuff on the down-low... Let me know.. we have a great site to fly and work out your bugs, but you will not get any fancy certifications for doing so...

Right on Myron....So much "Dis-information" and lack of details out there with regards to FAA and requirements to do stuff in this field it's just pathetic. Still getting "jerked-off" by the non performing feds, it's really hard to understand what our tax dollars are paying for.

Concerned,

Well, If you ask the FAA, they are UNDER-FUNDED and don't have any resources or manpower to throw at the whole "Drone" debate...   I can tell you that things are not looking so good as far as the commercial side of things... Its just going to be so cumbersome for a little guy that not many will weather the storm and all the big boys will get all the business..

That's about what I had envisioned  happening. The fat cats will get fatter and the rest will die and blow away. The little guys will get "Paper-worked" to death while the big boys "Good-Ole-Boy" network will have them smooth sailing through with rubber stamps all the way to the bank....Such a sorry state of affairs to see this happen.

Guys! Guys! Guys!!!! Calm down.  I was simply asking if there’s anything going on for Texas?  You do realize that the same guy passing legislation against UAVs here in Texas is the same guy that could advocate to the FAA for a location here in Texas.

The FAA is actually attempting to lay the ground work.  I agree, the big boys have the upper hand.  However, what’s to stop them from buying us up then assigning us to what we love the most as part of the deal.

It’s not all gloom and doom.  They cannot stop us from flying and doing what we love.  We just won’t be able to make money like the big dogs.  However, what’s to stop us from being innovative?  There’s lots to be done.

Read everything on this link and see for yourself.

Thank you.
