Hi there -- I'm the editor of Vice's tech and science site, Motherboard.tv, and a producer on recent short doc about the small drone movement, "Drone On," which you can watch here: motherboard.tv/drones.

I am looking for some drone heads down in Austin, in the hopes of shooting some follow-up video and collaborating on a fun demo/event during SXSW on the 11th of March. We are occupying a big space during the conference (at 401 East Cesar Chavez Street) and we want to gather hobbyists and enthusiasts to demo their machines, do small workshops, and have fun. There'll be a panel discussion about the future of drones in the US too.

Let me know if this is sounds interesting and if you've any questions. We're looking for participants and ideas for fun demos we can do on that day. I'm looking forward to meeting some of you.

Best,
Alex

I have nothing to contribute other than a thought.

How awesome would it be for someone to film the bats this summer.

I work very close by the bats. This would not be a terribly unfeasible thing for me to do, assuming I can get my quad off the ground.

If you clip on of those animals..... you can rest assured that you would be on the news and perhaps in jail!  I considered doing just that (filming the bats) however further thought prevented me from doing it.  The bats draw large crowds and people would be mortified if something were to happen to them.  just imagine what would happen if something were to go wrong in that flight!

Or... You could get some really awesome footage of some bats. Or... How about building a bat safe quad? Installing a rotor shroud would prevent serious damage to the animals. A mid air collision might be possible, but I would guess that the bat would fair better than your quad in that situation.

Put an ultrasonic beeper on it and the bats prolly wont hit it.. They fly using some sort of SONAR...
