SACP statement of condolences to family of Rev Dr NS Nyembenya
Tuesday, 10 March 2026:- The South African Communist Party (SACP) conveys its message of heartfelt condolences to the family of Rev Dr NS Nyembenya, who breathed his last on Sunday 8 March, a committed and respected chaplain of the African National Congress (ANC) and community leader.
The SACP also conveys its condolences to the ANC, all progressive forces, and his church, the Methodist Church of Southern Africa.
Among members of the community, Rev Dr Nyembenya was revered as a wise leader, who employed his life experiences and gifts to empower community members. He was also highly respected in the progressive movement for his uplifting and uniting messages for the movement.
Rev Dr Nyembenya worked hand-in-hand with the SACP during the week-long People’s Red Caravan programme at Mqhekezweni Village in the Eastern Cape, 20 – 26 October 2025. The People’s Red Caravan is an initiative that is being rolled out nationwide as part of village development.
During the People’s Red Caravan, he actively mobilised community members to work together in several critical areas under the programme, including food security, food sovereignty and production, community safety and security, health, education, arts and culture, recreational activities, initiatives to move towards the realisation of the right to work for all in practice by revitalising community-based productive activities, and infrastructure work – water, sanitation, access roads and other infrastructure.
In tribute to Rev Dr NS Nyembenya, the SACP reaffirms the urgency of the unity of the working class and communities in our country for the deepening of the national democratic revolution.
