rpad encoding of output

dear list

i try to display utf-8 strings by rpad, however these are scrumbled to
something unreadable.

to reproduce:
on http://www.rpad.org/Rpad/InputExamples.Rpad as myname put something
like "čšíéťáščíéáť" (aacute, scaron, ...) and click calculate

some of them are translated to html entities, however rest is not (both
is bad)

if i produce a graph from the session, it has proper titles
if i have cat("ášéčá") in r source called from a library (so no traveling
of data from browser to server) it is scrumbled as well.
i am using default debian testing and latest rpad from cran.

any hits on how to force rpad to display utf8 characters properly ?
