Hi Antonio,
I am afraid there is no algorithm yet for hip-worn accelerometers to detect sleep that works with GGIR. Further, I think it is important to split this question up between age groups as pre-schoolers, children, adolescents, and adults may all require a different approach.
You and others can help establish these algorithms as follows:
1. Help identify or collect a suitable dataset to train and evaluate the algorithm. A dataset will have to include polysomnography and/or a sleep diary.
2. Use the data to optimise the existing algorithm or develop a new algorithm. I am happy to help with this as a paid consultancy.
Best wishes,
Vincent
