Bonjour!
Je m'appelle Ben Palmer, je suis un Photographe et Journaliste Anglais basé à Paris. Peiné et las des pratiques discriminatoires envers la communauté Roms, j'ai décidé d'accompagner une équipe humanitaire depuis bientôt huit mois.
Depuis, la situation s'est dégradée, suite à l'enfermement la semaine dernière, de 26 personnes ( dont un bébé âgé de deux semaines ) dans un squat à proximité de Saint Denis. ( voir article ci-dessous )
Malgré l'intervention et les tentatives de leur venir en aide, il était impossible de les approcher, donner de l'eau ou de la nourriture, sans être confronté au service de sécurité, borné et parfois violent.
Inadmissible manque de considérations qui permet une fois de plus de constater que les droits de l'homme sont bafoués, et ce, avec la complicité des autorités.
Ainsi, je m'adresse à vous, qui lutte en faveur de l'égalité des droits et contre les discriminations.
Soucieux d'une expulsion imminente et qu'ils soient bannis d'îles de France, auriez-vous des contacts et des conseils, quant à une publication rapide de photographies, des habitants et de leur environnement, dans le but de les défendre et de leur venir en aide.
À mon avis, la sympathie et la pression du publique, sont les meilleures méthodes pour contester l'inhumanité dont les autorités sont au final responsables.

Hello!
I'm Ben Palmer, an english Photojournalist based in Paris. Sick of discriminatory practices against the Roma community, I decided to accompany a humanitarian team, for almost eight months, visiting camps.
Since then the situation has worsened following the confinement last week of 26 people (including a baby aged two weeks) in a squat near Saint Denis. (See article below)
Despite the attempt to intervene and help it was impossible to approach them, give water or food without being confronted with the security service, who were characteristically unreasonable and vaguely threatening. Their unacceptable lack of consideration for life once again exhibited violation of human rights, with the complicity of the authorities, thus our futility to counter it under the circumstances.
So I present my photos to you, who fight for equal rights and against discrimination. I’m apprehensive that evictions, presently in the suburbs, will inevitably amount to banishment out of Il-de-France entirely and lead the Roma into obscurity once again.
I would be grateful for any contacts and advice for the timely publication of photographic documentation (of people and their environment, in order to defend and assist them.)
In my humble opinion, building public sympathy and pressure is the optimum method for challenging the inhumanity of which the authorities are ultimately responsible.
CONCLUSION:
Please let me know if you, any of your colleagues or contacts are interested in using some of my photos. Amnesty are supportive, I hope to publish some in their September magazine report but this may prove too late for the Roma families that face present harassment and threat of eviction. I'm careful not to publish any without it being constructive for the Roma community. I do not want to take false credit or for the photos to be mistaken for an exposé of the Roma as a parasitic presence in France. I'm sure you understand my sentiments. Failing any bureaucratic assistance, at least these photos will serve as a document and trace of the real humans in question.
