[ Sorry for the nonsense on the list this week. I banned people who can't act like adults, and removed the messages from the archives. My apologies to everyone who received copies of the emails. ]

Hi Jesse,

I hear you. I wish I had information from the Iowa DNR I could share with everyone, but I've received no updates.

Perhaps David Downing or his successor at Iowa DNR could reply to this list with an update?

When I've been in town this summer I've been riding private land in Iowa and Missouri (60-90m away). I'm not aware that those locations are currently accepting new members, but if you want to call me I could make inquiries on your behalf if you're willing to pay a 2+ hundred dollars a year for those memberships.

Cheers,

Good call on the ban. That guy was out of line. Everyone is frustrated but posting vulgarities won't solve the issue. At the beginning, I feared that with state involvement this would be a long process. The analysis, invasives, and an arduous contract process would waste months. Wet weather was also a factor. It's been nearly 2 years, right? Sad. The club needs to stay together and make this work out when it reopens!

60-90 minutes, or 60-90 miles? I guess those are one-in-the-same, when you talk about drive time at highway speeds.

Would I pay a $200+ per year membership to access those places? Probably not at this stage in the game. If I can get my son into riding and it turns into something we go out and do more than a few times a year, then maybe. I'd go riding every weekend if I had the time, but being a grownup sucks. ;)

Jay:

I will forward this on for an update.  I know we are near the end of the logging phase. Because this is State land, that was a long process, but it is coming to a good conclusion.

This will end up being a great place to ride, safe from falling trees. The dead trees were a danger to both riders and the long-term operation of the Park.

The wait will be worth it.

Genoa has been shut down for good because of the lawsuits, is a story in the Columbus newspaper

I received a letter from Nohva that says they are disbanding Nohva due to the lawsuits.  Loup  power is who actually owns the land from what I understand. They did not say that the park was closing in that letter.  Just that they are not able to continue as an organization due to the idiots who sue after they crash riding ATVs.  This is a perfect example of why people need to follow the rules as far as drinking, closure times, and also why we need to support groups like Nohva.  It's my understanding that they also helped get river valley going when it was first opened.  It would seem like some kind of registration and or riding fee at Genoa would help cut down on some of the issues.   Anyway, that's what I know from the letter I received from Dan Nitzel.

Looks like the goodbye letter is their homepage now, with lots of additional information:

http://www.nohva.com/

I don't enjoy sand on bikes, so haven't rode much in Nebraska, even though I live here.

I do most of my riding in Iowa. It appears to me that unfair lawsuits against land owners have been crushing the sports we love for decades now. If there are legal reform efforts underway in Iowa, I'd love to support them.

Based on this sign, riders should not be able to sue. Of course, in today's society of unaccountability, they still do.
