Well I think it's about time we get to know eachother a little bit,
don't you?

Are you a student RT or a RRT?

Where are you working in the world?

What do you like least about this career?

What do you like most about this career?

Would you recommend this career to people in for FAMILY?

So maybe I should start this up... LOL

I am a student RT

I am in Calgary, AB, Canada

Well I don't have enough experience yet to really say what I like least
and what I like the most

I think I would recommend this career to family if their were
interested in the medical field, definitely

Ok, so forget about my post on hamburger phenominon, now I know you are
from Canada. I am a student in the U.S. I heard you guys have a three
year program. Does this include general credits? We have a two year
program here but really one year of generals is needed to graduate so
practically three years. I have one and a half semesters till
graduation! This May I will be a RT. I have applied already at some
hospitals and will probably start working soon because they hire
students! I like ABG's and ventilators the most. I hate sanitizing the
vents the most! I also like high energy situations like codes and
traumas where everyone is screaming and grabbing stuff and such. I
would recommend this field to family, but not others because I don't
want too much competition for jobs! I like things nice and easy like
now....LOL
That is all for now. I have finished a 12 hour clinical rotation and
it's time for a cold one.....

I'm a student RT (in class with Shelley)

Not working yet, but hope to be soon! (only one more semester...well,
one and finals)

I'm not sure what I like least yet, but trach care does not sound like
fun to me!

I think working with peds/neonates will be the best part for me!

I would definately recommend this career to anyone in my family. I
think it's awesome and we'll be needing a lot more people in the very
near future!

I am also a student RT

I go to school in Calgary at SAIT (also with Shelley and Lisa!). We
don't start our practicum until May and I can't wait. I really hope to
be in Red Deer, AB for mine.

As for what I like least, I can't really tell you yet as I just don't
know. Right now I think I'd like to be a transport RT, but I really
have not had enough experience to be sure of that yet.

For sure I would recommend this profession to others. I think that it
is awesome and am loving it. I think I will be very happy once I am
working full time in this field.

Yes, Jenn, transport on the helicopter is very cool, something I would
definitely like to experience. I am sitting here a day after getting my
wisdom teeth pulled bored as hell...tommorow I have to make up
clinicals as the others are off. I'm still waiting patiently from that
call from the hospital for that PRN night postition. $19 dollars US for
students sure beats $7.50 at the dunkin donuts! Plus even more when I
graduate. I'll probably still work at the dunkin donuts for a while
untill I get more hours at the hospital (knock on wood), but boy I'm
gonna LOVE quitting there.

I can't believe that you get paid during your clinical year. Not only
do we not get paid, we have to pay the school for tuition. Our
practicum placement is about a year long and we will be deciding after
Christmas where in Alberta or Saskatchewan we will be going for it.
(Calgary, Red Deer, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, Regina or Saskatoon). Or
most likely fighting over the placements, as there are many places that
are over and under subscribed.

Here in the U.S getting the RRT is a requirement now. If you don't get
it within 3 years of graduation you have to retake the CRT and you lose
your license.
