"Normal" is a relative term. They have always taught us that 7.40 is
the baseline. Anything higher, even 7.41, to us is alkaline. However we
know that this is perfectly acceptable. "Normal" rangle around here is
7.35-7.45, that is the laboratory range. However as you know a long
time copder or from the 50/50 club can be stable, alert and oriented at
7.27ph. Yes I have seen it. I have also seen a woman standing up with a
saO2 in the 70's. We told her to get back in bed and put the
nonrebreather on her. Man her heart must have been stressed! So yes,
you do see things that surprise you sometimes. Have you started
clinicals?

Yeah I've seen these things. As a student you tend to freak out more
because you're not exactly use to it... whereas your preceptor is like
"nah... whatever, it's fine". I know what you're talking about. We do
only 4 hours a week clinical just observation. But next year we do a
full year clinical in actual rotations and shifts like we would as a
registered RT. That's when the fun begins.

Yeah like restraining patients and dodging projectile sputum from
trachs LOL ! It's all in good fun, though.
