On Saturday Declan and I met with Candice Gordon who is running the
Republic 2011 event in Dublin. She is looking for people to run
similar partner events in other parts of the country. The event in
Dublin looks really promising. It would be great to see something like
this happen here in Galway to give the public an opportunity to put
the tough questions to those running for election in our constituency.
Myself and Declan are already quite stretched at the moment with Reset
would anyone else on the list be interested in running a Republic 2011
event? Candice would help in getting the event broader coverage and
promotional materials such as posters are already designed and ready
to go.
I'm sure Candice would really appreciate any offers of assistance so
give her a ring on 086 783 3180 or email republ...@gmail.com
All the Best

Here is the lowdown taken from http://generalelection.ie/gepress/republic-2011
The forthcoming General Election is the most important since the birth
of our nation.
The aim of the Re:Public2011 campaign is to promote the engagement in
democracy through information and inspiration. We hope to achieve this
with a web based campaign, using social networking sites and through
our own website. We will also be holding an event featuring political
candidates and comedy and musical entertainment.
The event will be streamed live online on our website. Our website
will feature videos and information about candidates, as well as
inspiring words from writers, poets, musicians, comedians, and other
public figures. We want our website to be a one-stop-shop for people
who want their vote to count but don’t know where to start when it
comes to finding out about their options.
We believe that the people have the power to make great changes in our
political system and, with the gift of the internet, knowledge and
information can be delivered to everybody, regardless of their
background.
We hope to bring the vote to the forefront of the public mind and
inspire them with choice.
We want 2011 to be the start of a social revolution of passion and
empowerment in Ireland.

I am working on a not-for-profit campaign to engage more people to take part in democracy. We think it is very important that young people get involved, so I would love to involve students. We are holding a large event in the Button Factory on the 15th of February. We have invited candidates representing every party to present themselves and answer public questions. We want to franchise these events out so that there is one in each constituency in the country. They do not have to be complicated. All you need is a room and table and chairs, invite every candidate in the constituency, have a master of ceremonies conducting it, and set up a camera and laptop so we can stream the meeting onto our website. It would be very productive if you would consider doing this in your college or if you could announce the campaign to the students. please find below our press release and mission statement.
All the best,
Candice Gordon
