I recently received this message from Senator Jim Webb of Virginia.

July 8, 2010

Dear Mr. Jackson:

Thank you for contacting my office regarding legislation related to military reservists' retirement. I appreciate your taking the time to share your views with me.

The National Guard and Reserve Retired Pay Equity Act of 2009 (S. 831) would include service after September 11, 2001, as service qualifying for the determination of a reduced eligibility age for receipt of non-regular service retired pay. This bill is currently under review in the Senate Committee on Armed Services. Please be assured my staff and I will keep your thoughts in mind as this bill moves through the legislative process.

As a member of the Committee on Armed Services, I appreciate having the benefit of your views. I would also invite you to visit my website at www.webb.senate.gov for regular updates about my activities and positions on matters that are important to Virginia and our nation.

Thank you once again for contacting my office.

Sincerely,

Jim Webb

United States Senator

I replied with this:

Dear Sir,
If you agree with this as an equality act,  You must consider those of us who served prior to September 11, 2001 as less important to our country's defence.  I would remind you that we all signed and swore to the same contract, accepting the same chance to danger.  My voluntary military service started in April of 1972 while orthers around me were looking for ways to avoid military service.  I served for 26 years (8 active Navy and 18 Air Force, Army and Navy reserves) and retired in Dec. 1999.  The thought tats you and others feel that my service is less important than those serving after September 11, 2001 is very sad.  All during my military service I was told how important my service was and I in turn told those serving under me how important their service was.  Now I find that we weren't that important after all as outlined in The National Guard and Reserve Retired Pay Equity Act of 2009 (S. 831) .

We will see what he has to say next.
