That's great, but what about all of us that have served and are now retired?  I served for 4 years of active duty during the Viet Nam War, that doesn't count, but serving now does.  This is just another political act by congress.  This is a disgrace.  Why can't you understand that?

Why are we settling for this measure? Why can the retirement age just be lowered to 55? I think we are shortchanging ourselves and we should fight for 55 for all reservists. Why can we bail out Wall St and the Auto makers but, the veteran who has honorably served their country is ignored. I have served in the active forces and as a reservist and also deployed to Iraq. I feel all reservists no matter what period of time they have served deserves a 55 retirement. I am so tired of Washington and politicians in general. We should shoot for 55 and that's all.

I have been following this initiative for many years and this is what I found.  The congressmen cater to large numbers like Veterans, veterans and their family hold a lot of votes, this is why the VA is well funded.  Reservist do not carry the numbers to catch the attention of politicians.  Bush/Chaney/Rumsfeld were totally against lowering the age.  They wanted to increase the age for all military.  Now it depends on the Obama/Gates administration.  Robert Gates is the key player. Your pleas to congress people are falling on deaf ears.  The commission on guard and reserve overstepped their bounds and probably killed any retirement reduction dead in its tracks. They had the perfect opportunity to make the retirement reduction a reality.  They are a bunch of egotistical idots.  The long and short is we will need to try to live until 60 and beyond.
