Hello!
Puppet Labs is hiring a UX Designer. I can't say enough about how
fantastic this company is. I joined full-time this month after
contracting for almost a year. Everyone at Puppet is brilliant, fun,
hardworking, and the culture is incredibly supportive.
If you're interested tell them Katherine Gray sent you (I'll take you
to lunch if you get hired :)
UX Designer
Department: Development
Reports to: Director of User Experience
Location: Portland, OR
Summary of Role
Puppet Labs is hiring a User Experience Designer who loves to create,
understands their tools, and thrives on responsibility in a fast-paced
team. You must have empathy, display attention to detail, and iterate
fast based on critical feedback from colleagues and users.
Interaction design for browser-based applications will be the core of
your job.
You'll also have a chance to make a big difference in the graphic
design of our products. We have design vernaculars for existing
products, but they're not unified, nor of the quality (clear,
simple, and professional) they should be.
Front-end engineering skills are essential: we wouldn't hire an
architect who couldn't drive a nail. You will be a full citizen
of our software engineering team and will need to work and communicate
well within it. You will be responsible for implementing some of your
design, depending on the needs of the team.
Qualifications
Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in a UX role focusing on both
interaction and graphic design for browser-based applications.
Right-fidelity design and prototyping, from cocktail napkin sketch to
interactive application.
Understanding of front-end engineering, including strong JavaScript,
HTML, CSS and Unix command line.
Demonstrated exceptional attention to user-facing details.
Experience working with developers on agile or similar teams.
Preferred but not required:
Familiarity with Ruby on Rails.
Experience as a SysAdmin or Developer a plus.
Strong knowledge of browser capabilities.
Application Details
With your online application, please include a cover letter and a link
to your online portfolio. In your cover letter, please describe why
you are interested in working for Puppet Labs, and address how your
experience matches each of the listed qualifications for the role.
