Hello everyone,

I am looking for a piece of software for the Mac or a good website that
will spider a website and produce a list of broken links as well as the
page that they are on. The websites I've tried so far report broken
links but don't tell you what page they are on.

Anyone have a suggestion?

We use the W3C link checker: http://validator.w3.org/checklink. Make sure
you click "Check linked documents recursively."

It'll give an in-depth report for each page on your site. Sometimes it can
take a little while to wade through all of the information, but it's very
thorough.

Just look for anything highlighted in red, and the scroll up to where it
says: "Processing http://whatever..." and that'll be the page to check.
Good luck!

Check out some of the example Ruby scripts at this page:
http://www.example-code.com/ruby/rubyspider.asp

You can modify them as necessary on your Mac and run them from the
command line.

Sounds like you've tried www.dead-links.com, eh? Infuriating, isn't
it? :^)

I'm looking forward to trying the other ideas listed in this thread;
thanks Boone & Ryan.
