EGAD is working on creating the Application Guidelines (AG), and would like to include testimonials about the application and implementation of RiC worldwide, and by various types of institutions. Do you work with RiC and would you like to share your experiences in the AG? Please let us know by replying on this message.

The testimonial consists of answering about 8-10 questions on how you/your institution is working with RiC, why you have chosen RiC and what your exeriences and recommendations are.

Best wishes, Merel Geerlings (EGAD-member)

Dear Merel,

I’m currently working with RiC-O for my PhD project at the University of Bologna on the semantic description of born-digital archives of writers. Feel free to contact me for any further information.

Best regards,

Good morning Merel,
I am the digital archive DevOps at the UK Cabinet Office and we are in the process of setting up a RiC-O system. While we don't have a fully functioning set-up yet I would be happy to be part of any exploratory work if that is of interest.
All the best,
Kelcey

Dear Merel,

This spring, I conducted an exercise with my students during the Archival arrangement and description course that I teach. They collaboratively described one professor's and historian's papers dating from the 1930s to the 1980s using RIC. The exercise spanned over 5 weeks (I had to explain archival description, the available standards, the semantic web, linked data, SPARQL, and similar themes). Part of the group successfully created meaningful, syntactically correct descriptions in RDF Turtle. Each student described one technical unit, and I linked their descriptions, visualized their results, and ran some queries. The goal was to extract information that wasn't obvious from the partial descriptions. I also wrote a paper about this exercise, which will be published by the end of the year in an open journal. I plan to finish the description of the whole documentation with my next group of students in the spring of 2025. It was/is an exercise, but perhaps this experience can help.

Kind regards,
Arian

Dear Merel,

In The Digital Archives Lab (LABOGAD) at Federal University of Rio de Janeiro State (UNIRIO) and in my JMM Consultancy we are implementing and applying the ontology RiC-O in the LOA - Linked Open Archives platform, using records from the "Diáspora Africana no Brasil" project

Therefore, we are interested in also to share our experiences in the AG.

Thank you, Arian, for sharing this useful report. It is very interesting to read about attempts at creating new archival descriptions using RiC-O, in addition to the somewhat more familiar challenges of mapping existing legacy descriptions. I also found your hypothesis about the collaborative potential of RiC-O very thought provoking.

Aaron

Hello everyone!

I am an undergraduate student majoring in Archival Studies at Shanghai University, China. I am currently exploring the application of the RiC series standards in Chinese archives, working with both simplified and traditional Chinese archives. To enhance the efficiency of archival description, I have innovatively utilized GraphRAG to automate the description of various RiC-CM entities and relationships embedded in archival content. In China, we only achieved multi-level archival description in 2022, and transitioning to multi-dimensional description is an inevitable path for the future!
