Thanks! A few different factors inspired the interface. I used to be
an advanced license holder, but let it expire back in 2002, so I found
myself practicing the exams again, (I'm back up to my general ticket
now). As I studied, I was doing online research to find and
understand the answers to the exam questions. I thought it would be
cool if everyone that practiced an exam could benefit from the
research of others that had studied before them. To that end, I added
the study material links section.
Those are the pragmatic factors. Then, there are the engineering
factors! Google introduced a free JavaScript API that allows Google
Docs spreadsheets to be queried like databases. It's a slick little
gadget. You can read more about it at:
http://code.google.com/apis/visualization/
They also introduced the capability to insert data into spreadsheets
using HTML forms. So, with a little HTML and JavaScript hacking they
provided a free interactive web based database application platform.
I'm always trying to think of applications that can be built and
served for free using the technology and this seemed like a perfect
fit.
