We also had to have internet. Right now we have a Cingular Edge PC card. I
think all the cell companies have them, sometimes called "air" cards. Only
made for the laptop, it has its own phone number. The connection is faster
than dial-up, but not as fast as DSL, and subject to how good the cellular
reception is. We have had no problem so far, we have good coverage. It was
$150 up front but most companies offer rebate, then $80 month unlimited
online time. Direcway also has satellite internet. $600 up front, $60 per
month, very fast. We know a company that has it, and they are very pleased,
but we have not tried it personally. We have to be able to get faxes quickly
and are exploring internet options for that purpose. There's also wifi, of
course, but that's spotty.
