Hello my blueberries!
I hope everyone had a safe and happy Memorial Day. But onto a more serious task at hand--The Philippine Independence Day Parade! It's going to be this Sunday June 6, 2010. For now we are going to meet at 9am on 42nd Street and 5th Ave, but the parade itself does not start until 1pm. Here is the basic rundown of the day's events:
10:00am – 6:00pm STREET FAIR Madison Avenue From 24th Street to 26th Street Lining up both sides of the Avenue from 24th to 25th Street are food vendors making for a virtual Filipino Food Festival. On the next block, 25th to 26th Street, are merchants, exhibitors, service companies and corporate institutions.
12:45 p.m. OPENING CEREMONIES Madison Ave. at 41st St. Ribbon-cutting, then the start of the parade.
1:00 p.m.
INDEPENDENCE DAY PARADE (THAT'S US!) Madison Avenue from 41st St, heading south (downtown). Leading the Independence Day Parade will be Independence Day Parade Grand Marshal, Filipino community leaders, Philippine Government officials, NYC Gov’t officials, honored guests, and a contingent of marchers from Filipino- American associations, organizations and assorted groups, Marching Bands, floats, open cars, and others. Bringing up the rear of the Parade, in her own float is the 2010 Diwa Ng Kalayaan (Spirit of Independence),
2:00pm – 6:00pm CULTURAL FESTIVAL Madison Avenue, North of 23rd Street. Filipino-American talents, performers, artists on stage.
