I was working with some folks at the Walters on some RTI acquisitions and processing.  They had RTIBuilder v.2.0.2 on a PC laptop running Windows 7 64-bit with 8GB RAM.  The RTIBuilder would only get as far as opening the second page, but would not load any of the source images.  We emailed Marlin and checked out some forum discussions.  RTIBuilder v.2.0.2 was uninstalled and then reinstalled from the CHI website, Java was updated, we restarted the computer and we checked the folder and file naming to make sure there were no spaces or different characters, and none of this fixed the problem.  Has anyone had this issue or does anyone have any suggestions?  Thanks!

Hi, try to reduce your images to a small size 75-100 bite ( you can reduce the images with nearly one click using pixerzise a freeware software   http://bluefive.pair.com/) once you reduce your image run the RTIbuilder with the reduce files. Once the software produced the PTM file dump it with the small images then add the first files you used and run the old good LPfitter software .you`ll have to drop inside the LPfitter the LP file which you got from the RTIbuilder insert 1 –enter than 0-enter, once the LPfitter finished to built the PTM file give it a name… and here you go…. Good luck

What I neglected to include in the previous post is that we were doing micro-RTI with a dome created by Paul Messier.  So we were not doing highlight RTI, but instead the LP based RTI and the files are very small to start with (less than 1MB).  I am not sure if that changes anyone's thoughts or suggestions.  I heard back and the folks at the Walters are still having issues trying to build their RTIs on their laptop. Thanks!

Hi Keats,

You mentioned you had already checked some of the posts on the CHI forums and corresponded with Marlin, but I wonder if the problems they're having are similar to the difficulties using the Dome LP pathway in RTIBuilder v. 2.0.2 that are described in this forum exchange:
http://forums.culturalheritageimaging.org/index.php?/topic/224-dome-lp-file-and-lp-file-operation-sequence/

It appears from that forum exchange that the RTIBuilder might have a bug as far as finding the correct image file locations when using the LP Dome pathway.  I haven't tried the dome method myself, so the description is on the forum is a little confusing as to what exactly is the problem, but Carla mentions that they have a developer looking into fixing the issue with RTIBuilder.  That was in April, so perhaps you could ask her about an update on this situation.  The other user in that forum post just wrote their own program to point the RTIBuilder to the correct file pathway, and perhaps they'd be willing to share it with you.

Have the Walters folks had any success using the RTIBuilder v. 2.0.2 on another platform, or have they only tried it on this particular laptop?  Also, have they tried using the HP PTMFitter?  They might have better luck with it, and then they could take the generated .ptm file and use it in RTIViewer.

I'm curious how this works out for you and the Walters, because I've been thinking of using an .lp file with a template for the light positions instead of the highlight method.

Best,
