ANIMAL welfare officers were shocked by the discovery today of decomposing
dogs in plastic bags and a dead cat in the loungeroom of a home west of
Brisbane.
RSPCA Queensland spokesman Michael Beatty said inspectors raided the house
at Laidley following a tip-off.
They found more than a hundred cats and eight dogs living around the
property without food or water in heatwave conditions.
A search inside the house located two dead dogs in plastic bags in the
loungeroom as well as a dead cat.
Although no one was home during the RSPCA raid, inspectors said people had
been living in the house despite the stench of the dead pets as well as
widespread animal faeces and urine.
"Someone's been sitting there watching TV with deceased dogs," said
inspector Laurie Stageman.

"I can't fathom that."
Fellow RSPCA inspector Daniel Young said animal faeces was scattered
throughout the property.
"The smell inside the house was over-powering," he said.
Mr Beatty said the RSPCA was trying to contact the owners, who could be
charged with neglect.
He said many of the cats on the property were kept in cages and several of
the animals were emaciated.
RSPCA inspectors removed about 30 of the cats and eight dogs from the
property for treatment at the RSPCA animal shelter in Brisbane.
They intend to collect more animals tomorrow.
