Hey everyone,

I'm not sure if it's an etiquette breach to post about another user group in a user group forum, but I'm going to anyways, haha. I just wanted to drop a note here that I'm trying to get a PHP users group started here in Richmond, and though there might potentially be some folks here in RSCG that might be interested in that if you use the language.

We're using Facebook to organize things for the time being (funny how Meetup.com doesn't really mention fees until you're almost done with the registration process), so join the group and share your ideas if you're interested at all.

Thanks!

Wasn't Facebook written in PHP?

Is. If I recall correctly they wrote their own php compiler and "facebook" the web app is essentially a huge single binary. Ars Technica had a really good article on fb's release engineering, I think this is it: http://arstechnica.com/business/2012/04/exclusive-a-behind-the-scenes-look-at-facebook-release-engineering/

Yeah, no sense using a site where mathematically the likelihood of a US user having an account is something like 85% and that 40% of the US population uses daily. Facebook is the only site where personal pride is the last remaining barrier to adoption.

btw, I joined. Would love to talk some PHP and we just expanded our space and could host some meetings.

As I now eat, sleep and breath PHP, I would be interested as well. Provided the group picks days other than Tuesday or Thursday, I might actually be able to show up too. :)
