June 2007 Meeting

Richard Elling, President, called the meeting at 7:03 PM, and the pledge of allegiance was given by all in attendance.

Then, Richard directed introductions all around.

 

Richard requested the officers' report.

 

Randy: Airshow pictures will be up on the Web site the 28th of June.

 

Sandy:

- Field day results. Duncan Campbell is compiling QSLs and will provide the log next week. Still gathering information. When the packet is compiled, it will be submitted to all board members for approval before being turned in, electronically, to ARRL.

* It was decided by the group to file the Field Day packet electronically using the ARRL Web site. Sandy will file.

 

- Presented Richard with $200 community service grant to ROARS from Northrop Grumman, Rancho Bernardo.

 

- Asked ROARS for recommendations of people and organizations to whom to send thank you cards for supporting field day. Recommended recipients of thank you cards are: A Pots Rentals, Mayor Quisenberry, CDF Station 80 Fire Chief, Carol at the Chamber of Commerce.

 

* Don Scott is to provide contact information and correct name spellings of Fire Station 80 Fire Chief and Carol from the Chamber.

 

Lee:

- $20 income

- $15.69 paid out for computer phone bill

- $143.98 for Field Day barbecue

- Balance as of 25 June 2007 is $2,818.26

 

- Will look into renewal for insurance policy; it should have been received earlier in June.

 

- Don Scott recommended that the group have a copy of the insurance policy on hand during the 4th of July event.

 

 

Richard asked for the Committee Reports. 

 

- Net Manager, Don, stated that no changes are planned for the weekly Nets. Expect Nets to occur in various locations or to be conducted by persons other than Ian, the regular Net Control.

 

- Repeaters. Paul reported in for Chuck. The batteries used for Field Day are not yet back in line. There is a possibility that an Anza Borrego repeater will be installed, possibly on the 670 repeater frequency. Possible locations of the repeater are the fire station, Chuck's weather station, or Chuck's trailer.

 

- Members suggested linking the repeater into the ROARS repeater or using same pair and same PL but not linked in. Further discussion is needed.

 

At this time, Richard turned the meeting over to Don for an Air Show report.

 

- Promotional books were returned to Richard. One book was sold for $10 and there were $8 in donations received from the Air Show and a previous event. The $18 was turned over to Lee.

 

Richard commenced discussion about promotional books, It's a Disaster, a reference for emergencies. Books contain a sticker on the inside cover with Ramona-area emergency information and phone numbers. The sticker on the outside of the book is ROARS promotional. Four were sold at Field Day. Books will be for sale at the ROARS 4th of July booth. One book will be donated to the CERT trailer. The book is also available on line through the Web site or as a download, but these do not benefit ROARS.

 

Richard then began the discussion about next month's meeting and Elmer's night, to occur on July 25th.

- Asked for location recommendation. All agreed to Dos Picos Park. No time was established, but Richard recommended sometime around 5:30 to start. There were no disagreements to this suggested time.

 

- There will be a barbecue.

 

- Richard requested topics for Elmer's night. Don suggested working on the CERT trailer, specifically, wiring in a generator that was donated and wiring in the lights. Richard asked for a vote on this idea. The majority present voted to work on the CERT trailer for Elmer's night.

 

* Don will provide a parts list of required materials for the CERT trailer and ask that these materials be donated.

 

- Discussion regarding a tracker for the CERT trailer ensued. Seeking information about a self-contained station that does not require a PC.

 

* Liz agreed to perform some research for the tracking device using her NASCAR connections.

 

- Decided as a group to have only one theme for Elmer's night; the CERT trailer.

 

The meeting was turned over to Don to talk about the upcoming 4th of July event. A map was passed out that roughly outlined the areas we are being asked to monitor. The Rotary Club is sponsoring the security for the event. The purpose ROARS will serve at the event will be as communicators only and report perimeter breaches to Net Control who will relay them to security. ROARS will not administer first aid, assist in fire fighting, or security operations.

 

ROARS and CERT will be working together and utilize a single Net Control. Only Net Control will contact Security. Each post will be assigned a number. The CERT trailer will be the Net Control station. CERT will be on hand to assist the Fire Department (Intermountain Volunteer Fire) in case such services are required.

 

Rotarians will conduct maintenance, handle lighting, and all emergencies. They will be operating on FRS band radios. Maintenance will be operating on a separate net, different than security. Net Control will monitor both maintenance and security nets.

 

Rotarians will be issued FRS radios. ROARS and CERT members are encouraged to bring their own radios (Ham or FRS).

 

Daytime crew has already been assigned. Richard asked for evening/night volunteers and passed around a sign up sheet. Evening/night crew will begin shift at 5:00 PM.

 

Richard asked for questions.  Questions and answers follow:

- Where will be the location of the booth and trailer?  A: Near the entrance and to the left. Particulars will be worked out later.

- Will there be coverage in the newspaper? A: (by Tim Hall) No. The deadline for coverage is the Monday before the paper comes out. It's too late to get in.

- Will there be a need for a ROARS hats and shirts order? A: Yes. Several members have shown interest.

 

Meeting was closed at 8:45.
