MINUTES FOR THE AUGUST 22, 2007 MEETING

OFFICIAL MINUTES OF AUGUST 22, 2007
The monthly meeting of the Ramona Outback Amateur Radio Society
(ROARS), met at the Community Room of The Ramona Public Library at
1406 Montecito Road, Ramona California 92065. The officers/directors
who were present are listed with an asterisk (*):

An additional five members were present. One guest was present.
1. MEETING CONVENED AT 7:10 P.M. Not obtaining a quorum we still had
discussion since we did not have to vote on any issues. President
Richard Elling started the discussion by leading in the Pledge of
Allegiance. He then called for officer reports.
2. PRESIDENT'S REPORT : Richard announced that for the small amount
of ten dollars will get any member or visitor a copy of the book,
"It's a Disaster and what are YOU gonna do about it?" The book
contains all sorts of information you may need for both intentional
and natural disasters and how to prepare for them. The books also
make a great stocking stuffer. You can also get the book on a CD for
the same price. Additionally, buying copies of the book helps ROARS
since this is a fund raiser for the club.
3. VICE PRESIDENTS REPORT: Randy Cleveland said he just got back
from Tucson Arizona where he took a vacation. He also reported the
reason he went there was to do some storm chasing during the monsoons
as a project with his duties working with Sky Warn. It sounded
exciting and worthwhile.
4. TREASURER'S REPORT: Lee Pedlow said the bank account balance is
$3,048.83. There was no income this month. The expenses this month
were $15.68 for the repeater phone line and $322 for the club's
insurance policy. Due too not receiving a timely notice of the bill
this year, Lee paid the bill with his own credit card in order to keep
the policy form lapsing. The club paid him back so the Treasurers
Report for July will be changed.
5. SECRETARY'S REPORT: Tom Carmody said the Minutes were not posted
on Google last month since the meeting was, "Elmer's Night," held at
Dos Picos Park. Members of both ROARS and CERT worked on the CERT
trailer. We also had a potluck BBQ which was enjoyed by all. ROARS
paid for the meat and everyone brought a side dish. It was a great
time with plenty of good food. Did I mention the special Peach
Cobbler that a member's wife baked? WOW, Thank You Loretta!
6. NET MANAGER'S REPORT: Don Scott was absent.
7. REPEATER TRUSTEE'S REPORT: Chuck Carlson was absent.
8. OLD BUSINESS: President Elling said the Field Day Report has been
submitted to A.R.R.L.. He did not remember the exact score but it
ranked up there where it normally is.
Rich said there was a stack of papers on a table at Field Day that
someone may have picked up. There was a piece of paper that had the
name and address information for a lady who donated her husband's
radios to the club. He passed away and we need her information to
send her an official Thank you. So if you were at Field Day, check
your gear and papers to make sure you did not inadvertently pick up
the lady's information. Please let Richard know if you find the
information.
The Ramona Fireworks that ROARS and CERT worked had no major problems
or injuries. Kiwanis and Northrop Grumman made donations for our
service at the display.
Elmer's Night had a good crowd and everyone had a good time even
though we got kicked out of the parking lot at dusk because the ranger
had to lock the gates and go home. The ranger suggested next year we
reserve the "Group" section which has its own parking lot. That way we
could use the park longer and not have to worry about getting our cars
locked inside the gate.
9. NEW BUSINESS: President Elling said it was short notice, but this
coming weekend, there is a camp out at Indian Flats. If you are
interested, contact David Shaw or Chuck Carlson. They will be setting
up a HF station.
September 7-9 is the Southwest HAM Convention in Torrence. Duane
Heise is the contact if you want to car-pool on Saturday. There will
not be a swap meet at this convention since they do not have the
room.
The end of summer picnic will be on September 22 at Collier Park at
6th and G Streets. It will be starting at about 10:00 A.M.. ROARS
will supply the meat and everyone can bring a side dish or dessert.
Randy Cleveland introduced his girlfriend to the club. She is a brand-
new Tech and got her ticket in August She is Peggy KI6LEV who turned
in an application to join ROARS.
Our thanks go to Duane for the cold refreshments and cookies he
brought to the meeting.
10. NEXT MEETING: The forth Wednesday of the month which is
September 26, 2007
The meeting adjourned at 7:50 p.m.

PS Sorry I took so long getting this posted. I JUST COULDN'T SEE
DOING THEM. All kidding aside, two weeks ago I ended up in the ER
with what I thought was a detached retina in my right eye. After
several tests it I was told the retina did not detach, but the eye
jell did. Today is the first day that I got rid of all the "lighting
flashes" I saw every time I move my eyes but I still have a bunch of
"floaters" get in my way and make it very hard to read or do close up
work. The doctors say it could take weeks or months for the floaters
to dissolve. We shall see....

PS. Sorry I took so long getting these Minutes posted. To be honest,
I JUST COULD NOT SEE DOING THEM! All kidding aside, about ten days
ago I ended up in the ER with what I thought was a detached retina in
my right eye. After several tests they told me I did not have a
detached retina but instead the jell in my eye detached itself from
the back of the eye. This happens to people my age they say. It
causes the same symptoms a detached retina caused such as floaters and
"lightening flashes" in the eye when I move it. There is nothing they
can do and they say most of the symptoms will go away in time. Today
is the first day I do not have the lightening flashes anymore. I
still have a bunch of floaters that make it hard to read or do close
up work. It could take several weeks or months before they will (or
may) dissolve. So I will be hangin' in there and we shall
SEE.......AH the Golden years!
