Official Minutes of the April 25, 2007 meeting

The monthly meeting of the Ramona Outback Amateur Radio Society
(ROARS), met at the Community Room of The Ramona Public Library at
1406 Montecito Road, Ramona California 92065. The officers/directors
who were present are listed with an asterisk (*):

An additional five members were present. There were no visitors.
1. MEETING CONVENED AT 7:08 P.M. Having met the quorum, President
Richard Elling convened the meeting and everyone recited the Pledge of
Allegiance.
2. PRESIDENTS REPORT : Richard Elling had everyone introduce
themselves. He said he would hold his comments until new business. He
then called for officer reports.
3. VICE PRESIDENTS REPORT: Randy Cleveland said the website is going
great and Sandy has improved the site. He said Richard has completed
the calendar. Sandy said she is going to work with Permalinks so the
Minutes that are posted on the Google site will be able to be linked
directly from the ROARS web site. Sandy said the speaker she invited
to the meeting tonight was unable to attend. She apologized for not
having a speaker tonight.
4. TREASURER'S REPORT: Lee Pedlow said that as of today's date we
have a balance of $2,782.62 on hand. The April expenses were $15.69
for the repeater phone patch. We had income of $88 for dues
payments. We have a couple of new members who have joined the club.
5. SECRETARY'S REPORT: Tom Carmody said the minutes of the last
meeting are posted on the Google page and he passed around a copy for
members to view.
6. NET MANAGER'S REPORT: Don Scott said he has been running the
Family Radio Net from the CERT trailer at the San Diego Country
Estates Fire Station # 81. He is able to hear people in the Estates
and in town.
Ian Pedlow said the last couple of ROARS Nets he ran, only had a
couple of people check in.
7. REPEATER TRUSTEE'S REPORT: Chuck Carlson was absent.
8. OLD BUSINESS: Don Scott and Randy Cleveland reported on the ROARS
camp out. Several members showed up and all had a good time. That
was even though the winds arrived in the late afternoon on Saturday,
April 14. Don poked fun at Chuck and David and the food fiasco, how
they brought steak and homemade beans to share with everyone and how
they loaded the food into their truck and took off with it when the
winds hit. The rest of us were left empty handed without getting a
taste of the stakes and beans when the winds hit.
It was also reported that Mercy Air had to land about 50 yards away
from our camp to pick up a young adult who had a quad roll over on him
when he was trying to load it on a trailer.
9. NEW BUSINESS: President Elling said Field Day is June 23-24 prior
to the June meeting. July 4 falls on Wednesday this year when most of
us will be working radio at the fireworks. Don said we could have a
short net role call instead of the formal ROARS Net.
For the most part we can handle Field Day as we have done in the
past. There was discussion about having it in conjunction with the
CERT academy disaster drill that will also occur on the 23rd. The
CERT drill will only last a couple of hours. There was discussion
about not giving the actual Field Day location until the start of
Field Day so people will not be able to set up the night before.
Richard appointed Ian Pedlow, Sandy Stoddard and Don Scott to the
Field Day committee. Chuck has lots of the antennas at his house and
even though he was not at the meeting, he would probably agree to
bring then to the selected Field Day site.
Sandy said she will coordinate the orders for ROARS hats, shirts and
pins.
10. NEXT MEETING: The forth Wednesday of the month which is May 23,
2007. The location will be at Chuck's house at 924 Etcheverry
Street. This will be the annual auction night and BBQ. We will take
donations for the auction, so get your stuff there so someone can bid
on it. We will start eating about 1730 hours and end the auction
around 2030.
For those who would like to attend the repeater training, please be at
Chucks no later than 1700 hours before the auction starts.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:47 p.m.
