This week Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan demanded that the list of citizens with FOID (Firearms Owners Identification) cards must be made public. The Illinois State Police feel that to release such a list does not only invade personal privacy rights, but also puts the safety of law-abiding citizens in danger. The Madigan family already does enough damage to our pocketbooks and jobs; must they now play fast and loose with our lives?
In response to Lisa Madigan’s request, the Illinois Republican Party has launched an online petition at FOIDPrivacy.com for concerned citizens to sign. I urge you and your friends - gun owners or not - to sign it, and help pass GOP-sponsored legislation to keep gun ownership private.
On a much different note, I also urge you to read an excellent op-ed by Congressman Peter Roskam. In it he discusses the U.S. tax system - its confusion and oppression on small businesses and his call for reform.
Democrats in Illinois (both living in the state and those just visiting) are simply out of touch with the needs of its citizens. We are on the brink of financial collapse, and what is Governor Pat Quinn doing? Instead of working on ways to save your money, he’s off raising money for the Democratic Governors Association.
Meanwhile your Republican Congressmen have passed legislation to repeal the "1099 Provision" from ObamaCare. Congressman Randy Hultgren gave a nice speech on the floor of the House outlining the importance of repealing the "1099 Provision" to small business owners.
Finally, I’d like to close this week by reminding you that local elections will be held in most Illinois communities on April 5. While they don’t receive as much attention as national and state races (or the Chicago Mayoral Election), they elect leaders that have huge impacts on your everyday life and who often go on to be candidates for higher office in a few years. Many of our local Republican organizations are actively supporting candidates in these elections. Please check with your Republican County Party Chairman to see if you can give them a hand in these next few weeks.
