Happy December Richmond Neighbors and Friends:
We have very important guests coming to our December 8 meeting. For our last meeting of the year, we will be hosting the Oregon Justice Resource Center, who will be providing a ZOOM ONLY “Know Your Rights” training. During this hour-long training session, OJRC attorneys discuss clear, practical information about rights, risks, and remedies if ICE shows up at your business, school, or residence and they give an overview of real scenarios and tools you can use right away. They also share the national and local context about what Oregon’s sanctuary state status means. They leave plenty of time for Q & A. I attended the training they offered at the Clinton Street Theater and learned a lot. They also stress how this is a fluid situation so they have to pivot each time there are changes in policies. It is an opportunity for people to understand the risks and remedies for showing up in support of our community.
We will also briefly discuss our January Board retreat -- the board spends an evening of socializing and re-grouping. So there is no regular RNA meeting in January. I hope to revisit our neighborhood priorities survey and see if we met our goals in 2025, and where we might want to focus our attention in 2026.
Our board is a group of dedicated volunteers, doing our best to respond to the needs & concerns of our neighbors, through collaboration, best practices and communication. We hope we serve you well. I hope that some of you will consider joining our Board or Committees in 2026! Looking forward to seeing our neighbors and friends at our Zoom meeting on Monday, December 8 at 7 pm.
