The Rhode Island Student Climate Coalition and RI Clean Water Action would like to invite you to participate in Students in Action: Advocacy Training for Environmental Change in Rhode Island. This day long event will focus on teaching students how to be effective advocates for the wide variety of environmental issues that affect us locally, nationally, and globally.
Basically we want YOU to know how to talk to elected representatives to push for REAL change on environmental and climate issues. This is a day for students to understand and bring TOGETHER the POWER we have.
Talk to your teachers, friends, and environmental groups on campus about getting a group of students from your school to this day of speakers, trainings, and hands on experience. We hope to provide you with an opportunity to get more engaged in the vibrant world of environmental and climate organizing in Rhode Island.
The beginning of the day will be focused on learning the basics of lobbying and student advocacy
The day will conclude with smaller focus groups that will discuss and learn about specific aspects of environmental work and lobbying: Renewable Energy, Environmental Justice Transportation, Climate Change, and Advanced Lobbying.
After this, we'll have lunch and head up to the Capital building to have a hands on lobbying day and show Rhode Island that students from across the state care about environmental issues
Schedule of the day (please note that you are not required to attend the entire day, although it's encouraged!)
10-10:15 Introductions, Objectives, etc.
