Dear Friends,
I'm putting together a group to investigate Athol Fugard's Orestes
(1971). Orestes is a pivotal piece for Fugard, marking his entry into
his stripped down, more physical theater. There's no video footage of
the piece; all we have (that I know of) is Fugard's description in a
letter and some journal entries. The project will be putting some flesh
on this fossil Fugard supplies us, and I'd love contributions from
playwrights, composers, choreographers, and performers of all stripes.
Sessions will be in January, and hopefully we'll have something to show
at the end of our time together. I would also like for us to read
Grotowski's "Toward a Poor Theater" and R.D. Laing's The Divided Self,
both of which played into Fugard's Orestes. If you're interested at
all, please email me at brando...@gmail.com and I'll send you
Fugard's 4-page text. You can then let me know if you'd like to included
in discussions and the group meetings. Brandon
