For anyone who is interested in getting out of the Western Hemisphere
for a summer of field experience, the Akko Archaeology, Heritage and
History program is offering to replace a July in Rhode Island with an
exciting 5 week program in northern Israel.
In addition to getting to spend time abroad (always a plus), you will
get 8 credits (two 4 credit classes) of college credit, both of which
are listed as letters classes. The courses are:
1. Field Theory and Methods (a field school course, where you will
learn everything you need (on the job) as you help us break ground on
Akko's ancient Tel.)
2. Akko (a transdisciplinary course using Akko as a case study to
learn about history, trade, culture, religion, and politics. Akko has
been inhabited since the Middle Bronze Age (at least), and has been an
important religious, cultural, and trading center for a variety of
groups. Currently, Akko is home to Bahai, Muslim, Christian and Jewish
populations, all living together on the Mediterranean coast.
