As some of you may know, Brown is hosting the Theoretical Archaeology
Group (TAG) this year, from 4/30 to 5/2. Here is a short description:
"This conference, the third TAG meeting to be held in North America,
is intended to bring together a diverse range of scholars and
scholarly perspectives and to engender both friendly conversation and
vigorous debate. In this, it stands in the long tradition of the TAG
enterprise, founded in Great Britain in 1979 to encourage the
exploration of inter-disciplinary theoretical issues and their
application and use in archaeological interpretation.
The 2010 TAG will operate around the general theme of ‘The Location of
Theory’ — an intentionally open ended rubric that could be developed
along many different lines."
It is a chance to get to participate in some of the most cutting-edge
debates and ideas in the discipline, and a chance to hear, and meet,
some of the most eminent archaeology scholars out there. A more
detailed description, and a schedule for the weekend's events can be
found at:
http://proteus.brown.edu/tag2010/8027
The conference costs $50, HOWEVER......volunteers get to attend for
free. Volunteers are needed to help run the conference, so you will be
doing things like helping with registration, etc...not overly
strenuous work, and it will be worth it to go to events for free. It
has been suggested that volunteers choose which day they would prefer
to be at, and volunteer for the whole day. If your schedule doesn't
work that way, however, they are more than willing to have you do 4
hours each day, or something like that.
Additionally, RIAC will be having a brief gathering at some point
during the weekend (details yet to be decided) in order to help people
network and meet some of the visitors.
So, after all of that information, if you want to volunteer for TAG,
please email me (elise....@gmail.com) with the day/days you want to
volunteer. It should be a fantastic weekend!
