to Rhode Island Archaeological Colloquium
Hello everybody,
RIAC is gearing up for our next meeting on December 10th at URI. The
time is set for 7:30. It will be in the Memorial Union, top floor in
the Student Senate Chambers (it is really easy to find). Directions to
the university and the Memorial Union hall are provided at the end of
this message.
By popular demand, this meeting is a fieldwork seminar. We plan to
tell you exactly where to find good fieldwork opportunities. Further
we plan to offer advice on HOW to select the proper fieldwork
experiences that suit you and also what to avoid when considering
potential sites. We will also have commentary about Cultural Resource
Management by URI anthropology professor, and Zooarchaeologist, Dr.
Kris Bovy. We strongly urge all who have archaeological fieldwork
experience to attend this event and discuss this experience with the
group. Elise, Jon, Christina, and I will all do the same. Information
will be distributed for all members in attendance.
Directions - Take 95 S to exit 9 (left exit). This is route 4 and
eventually turns into rt 1 after
about 10 miles. Follow for another 4 miles or so until you come to a
major intersection with lights. There will be a mobile to your right
as well as a Sleepy's and Subway. This is route 138. Take a right.
Follow this road down to your first set of lights (another 2 miles or
so down the line) and take a right. Drive straight to your first stop
sign. You will see a small arch to your
left. Take the left. At the end of the street take a right. Where the
road curves is the Memorial Union. It is a big building. Follow the
curve to access parking in the rear. Enter the building and climb the
stairs to the top. The Senate Chambers (where we are meeting is up
there). You will pass an information desk if you need help.
Hope you all can make it on such short notice!
Best Regards,
Zach Silvia
