GWEC launched the first session of its new Wind Sustainability Initiative (WSI) on the sidelines of WindEurope Madrid, led by GWEC’s Chief Industry Officer, Stewart Mullin and Supply Chain Coordinator, Nina Melkonyan who introduced the initiative’s objectives and engaged stakeholders on its future role across the wind value chain.
WSI will establish a globally recognised framework to improve supply chain transparency, strengthen investor confidence, and support the responsible scale-up of wind energy.
Built on leading international standards, the initiative brings together industry, finance, and civil society to streamline sustainability practices and accelerate the delivery of bankable wind projects worldwide.

| GWEC Market Intelligence released two key reports highlighting the latest trends in global wind market activity and deployment.
The Q4 2025 Global Wind Auction Update showed that around 51 GW of wind capacity was awarded globally in the fourth quarter of 2025, up 32% quarter-on-quarter.
Meanwhile, the Wind O&M Service Provider Overview highlights the growing importance of after-sales services as the industry matures. Around 59 GW of wind capacity has been operating for over 20 years without decommissioning. |

The GWEC team had a highly successful week at WindEurope Madrid, taking to the Markets Theatre stage to present insights from the newly launched Global Wind Report 2026. In the session “Winning the Age of Electricity with Wind”, industry leaders explored how wind is powering global electrification and delivering energy security at scale.
GWEC also led a session on Wind Power to Prosperity in APAC, highlighting how coordinated action across governments, investors, and industry can unlock economic growth and industrial development. For deeper insights, join the APAC Wind Energy Summit in Hanoi this June.
A final session focused on Unlocking Offshore Wind in Latin America, showcasing opportunities across Brazil, Colombia, and beyond, and reinforcing the region’s growing role in offshore wind development.
Throughout the week, GWEC advanced collaboration through key working groups and hosted networking receptions with partners including the World Bank Group x ESMAP and Dajin Offshore, bringing together stakeholders from across the global wind value chain.
