Hello all,

I'm in the planning phase for some kind of web front end which should offer a convenient (and more user-friendly) way to access a web service. Well, RB is really good for such things :-)

Now, I'm still wondering what kind of protocol I should use for communication with the server. All the application logic is in PHP, so it's HTTP(S) for sure, but then?

I kind of like the idea to implement standard-protocols like SOAP (and PHP's SOAP abilities would come in handy here), but doesn't that come with a really huge overhead?

On the other hand, some proprietary protocol might be easier to tailor to my specific needs (and thus be less "heavy" on the network), but does it make sense to try and reinvent the wheel?

The best solution would be some more lightweight RPC protocol. Anybody knows one? Any other ideas? Any help would be appreciated :-)

Greetings

/sascha

The biggest cause of trouble in the world today is that the stupid
people are so sure about things and the intelligent folks are so full
of doubts.
