Welcome back and best of the new year to everybody!
If you order food in your cabin between 12 a.m. and 5 a.m. you'll be
paying a service charge of $3.95. No doubt this will annoy some
people regardless of anything said. However the fee does include the
tip. Nearly that which most people would give in tip anyway, is part
of the new charge. For my part, the absence of a need to find cash
and would welcome not having to fork the cash over awkwardly. That
said, some prefer to give cash tips and for amounts likely more than
the share provided the crew member delivering the food.
In other news, I read a story at The Nature Conservancy about several
ships in the Royal Caribbean fleet donated a total of $35,000 and many
man-hours in an effort to aid a University of Central Florida effort
related to restoring osyter beds. The project centers on creating
mats of oyster shells, which require holes to be drilled in them, and
the mats to be placed where the species can breed. The funds for the
donation came from the company awards of "Environmental Ship of the
Year" given to Mariner and Freedom of the Seas.
