14-2 finish for Riverside over a tiring Roanoke squad made the final score look worse than it was. Riverside had trouble finding the consistency, especially on defense, to put much distance between them and the Rebels for the first 2 1/2 quarters, but a 39-point 3rd quarter outburst finally gave us some breathing room. Roanoke made one last run at us in the 4th, but we were able to keep scoring and they finally saw their tank on empty. We doubled them up on PF (32 committed by Roanoke to 16 by Riverside) resulting in a 37-45 Ollies' performance at the free throw line, a very good outcome for a team that shoots it only about 72%.
Lots of good offensive performances from Riverside, who had 24 offensive rebounds. On one play, in the 2nd half, we got 6 shots on a single possession, until Olden Polynice was finally fouled. Mitch Richmond had 26 points and 7 rebounds for Riverside, but wasn't really very good. He was 10-27 from the field and just 1 of 7 from 3-point range. Gary Payton had 21 points, 11 assists, and 7 rebounds. Derrick Coleman had 19 points and 9 rebounds. Bryant Stith (6-8 FG, 6-6 FT) had 18 and 7 rebounds (5 offensive). Alonzo Mourning battled foul trouble but had 17 points and 12 rebounds. Travis Best (6-9 FG) had 14 points and 7 assists. Polynice had 13 points and 7 rebounds (5 offensive).
Lindsey Hunter (12-25 FG, 5-15 3FG) had 29 points to lead Roanoke. Arvydas Sabonis had 23 points, 10 rebounds, and 6 assists. Antonio McDyess had 16 points and 7 rebounds, and Harvey Grant had 10 points and 12 rebounds.
