The Kali River expedition is a fine big-water rafting trip. The white water
of the Kali River makes rafting a terrific way to explore and arouse your interest
in the magnificent scenery. The jungle, wild life, and bird life are
phenomenal. Since there isn't any path along the river, it is a totally
into the wild rafting trip through a remote area of Nepal and India.
The River, which is called Kali or Sharda on the Indian side, and Mahakali
on Nepalese side, demarcates the border between Nepal and India. It is also
well known for Mahesher fishing. It is a good choice for raft or kayak
groups looking for a wild and remote river that is not too difficult. It is
graded between grade III and IV.

Arrive Kathgodam by early morning. Arrival assistance and drive from
Kathgodam to Pithoragarh (07 hrs). Overnight at Rest House. Views of
Panchuli more than compensate for the drive.

Jhula Ghat start and on the river: Drive Pithoragarh to put-in at Jhula
Ghat (02 hrs). Raft an initiation stretch of 15 kms of Class II+ rapids passing
many Stalactite and Stalagmite formations. Camp by late afternoon and
hike to nearby village.

23rd
January 09
On the River: We pass Pancheshwar where the Kali meets the Saryu, and is
now called the Sarda. We camp below the confluence for a relaxed
afternoon.

24th
January 09
On the River: The river begins to get pacy as we negotiate a series of
Class III rapids. The day is marked by thick jungles and less-inhabited
sections.
Camp overnight.

January 09
On the River: Today, we raft 20kms to camp below the class IV Chooka
rapid.

26th
January 09
On the River: We begin to enter the terai jungles today with great white
water and the chance of spotting a wild elephant. We reach Boom where our
river trip finish and we drive to Kathgodam (2-3 hours). Overnight
Ranikhet Express to Delhi.
