Subject: [Quest List] A uniform question

In the home series, when Anshu goes outside and the techniques go "old school" the uniform changes a little... Is that a Hakama? and does it tuck into the boots or tie somewhere? Mostly a curiosity thing because I see it more and more now across the web.

Thanks!

When you see me in a plain black suit with plain black belt, that is a visual cue that I am demonstrating a purely classical form of the kata that most traditionalists would label “straight from the scroll.”

Sometimes we wear a plain black gi and belt, and sometimes we wear a black jacket and hakama tucked in the tops of kyahan leggings to give the look of Iga-bakama or “hakama in the style of Iga”

In sequences where I am wearing a gi with the SKH Quest logo and gold-motiff obi sash belt, I am usually demonstrating an adaptation of the classical technique to allow the classical to be more relevant to modern day application.

This way, I can give students both approaches on one DVD, which is so valuable to those studying these lessons for self defense.

If on the other hand you just want classics with no consideration of actual application in this current age so different from 1500s Japan, you can still benefit by watching for those scenes shot in black-only attire.
