Maryland governor signs hate crimes bill

SUMMARY: Maryland Gov. Robert Ehrlich signed a hate crimes bill that
includes violence committed because of the victim's actual or perceived
sexual orientation or gender identity.

The new law makes Maryland the ninth state in the country to include
transgender people in hate crimes laws, and the third to do so this year.
