Families, couples enjoy gay-friendly festival at park
Pat Gambrell and Shirley Hixson never believed they would live to see
this day.
Retired Pensacola residents Gambrell, 78, and Hixson, 76, chatted with
friends Saturday afternoon as one sat on a lawn chair and the other on a
Go-Go Ultra motor scooter at the Come Out Pensacola! Community Fair and
Celebration at Bartram Park.
The lesbian couple met in 1966.
"If you had told me then there would be a festival like this here, I'd
have said you were crazy," Hixson said.
