The
S Series revival program brings older Shen ports back to life on the modern S kernel. As you know Shen was ported to many platforms, and many of these implementations were innovative and useful in their time. However they have since become difficult or impossible to build with current compilers, runtimes and operating systems. They were also written to run on outdated pre-S kernels.
I have worked with ChatGPT to make this great body of work useful again. Three ports are already revived; Python, Java and Javascript. All ports are being restored with the minimum changes necessary, preserving their original character and license, but making them usable again as part of the Shen ecosystem.
Here is one:
Shen, www.shenlanguage.org, copyright (C) 2010-2026, Mark Tarver
version: S42, language: Javascript, platform: Node.js v24.21.0
port shen-js-s42 0.1.0, ported by Ramil Farkhshatov; S-series revival
(0-)
All the S Series revival ports have been tested against the standard
Shen test battery (134 tests) and come out at 100%. In the next few
days I'll update the Shen site to make them downloadable.
